General Membership Meeting
November 10, 2011
President Tim Klaben called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
The speaker for this meeting was Lieutenant Wayne Strong of the Madison Police Department.
Brochures regarding home and auto safety were handed out to members attending. Some suggestions to keep your home were addressed: Lights, Locks and Landscaping--Motion sensor lights as well as keeping brushes near windows trimmed to a three foot height are good deterrents to potential burglars. Also have good quality locks on all doors and windows and keep garage doors down to keep from gaining entry to homes.
Other suggestions: When gone on vacation: have mail and papers stopped or picked up by neighbors; have walks and driveways shoveled during snow season. Have someone put your trash can out on the curb and then return it on trash day.
Lt. Strong answered questions about traffic in the neighborhood and the No Firearms Allowed sign. Speeders usually live in the neighborhood and suggested slow down signs and speed board for the neighborhood.
If you have a No Firearms Allowed posted and a person enters with a firearm, you should call the Madison Police Department as this would be a trespassing violation.
The Eastside police station now has a Med Drop bin located in their lobby that is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM except holidays. To dispose of unused medications, put empty pills and tablets into sealable plastic storage bags, but recycle your empty med bottles at home.
Accepted medications are: prescription and over the counter medications, vitamins, medications for pets, ointments, lotions and liquid medications (Leave lotions and other liquids in their glass or leak proof containers and then bag them)
They will not accept needles, thermometers, medication from businesses, aerosol cans or inhalers.
The Med Drop bin has collected over 1800 pounds of medication in one year.
Motion to approve minutes made by Darold Lowe and seconded by Merl Maiers.
Discussion on new brochure with the suggestion of names of Street Captains and areas to be listed. The meeting dates of March, June, September and November should also be listed.
There will be a January 23 Plan Commission meeting regarding the Grandview grocery project that will be open to the public.
Heritage Heights has contacted RMNA that they need volunteers in the evenings to clean up for the Ice Rink located in their neighborhood.

A motion to accept the Treasurer's Report was made by Merl Maiers and seconded by Darold Lowe.
Sign Committee Report
Darold Lowe and Merl Maiers checked four locations for another sign. Darold presented four photos of the location that the sign committee will look over at their next meeting. There will have to be another grant drawn up and the committee could also need more volunteers.
Gretchen Lowe received the approval of the City Clerk for RMNA brochures to be available on election day if there is enough space to do so.
Karen Reuss suggested putting a flag out on our RMNA sign or outside of the church to publicize the RMNA meetings.
Dane County Supervisor Don Imhoff talked about redistricting (will be District 17) and we will pick up other side of Stoughton Road into the district. He also mentioned that the Huber Center closing was on the table and people arrested for misdemeanors could be out in four hours.
Jeff Pertl announced his candidacy for Dane County Board for the new District 17.
Mary Polancih announced a Recall event for November 15th from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm at her home.
Award Certificates were given to Mary Polancih, past president of RMNA and Teresa Northrup, past Treasurer for their years of service to our neighborhood organization.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30.
