Occupy Madison Info Session

Location: 205 S. Stoughton Rd.
Date: April 4, 2024
Time: 6pm

Occupy Madison will host a second informational session on Thursday, April 4 to discuss their intention to submit a rezoning proposal to allow for residential uses at their Eastside property located at 202 S. Stoughton Rd (Google Maps). Rezoning the property to allow for residential uses would mean that Occupy Madison residents will be able to live onsite in portable shelter units. Currently, they only use the property to construct shelters for other locations. The meeting will start at 6pm.

Following concerns raised at the first informational session, as well as follow-up input from the RMNA Board and Alder Field, Occupy Madison representatives will be addressing the following topics:

  • Mission and Goals – Overview of Occupy Madison’s mission and goals for the Eastside property.

  • Lighting – What is the proposal for lighting on the property and is light pollution taken into account with design?

  • Sidewalks – What discussions have been had on getting a sidewalk installed in this area?

  • Bus Stops – Any effort to get additional bus stops on S. Stoughton Rd. or near to the property.

  • Safety concerns – Consideration of safety risk being in proximity to AirGas.

For background information and helpful links, see Alder Field’s blog post on March 25. The RMNA Board encourages members of our community to attend the info session to ask questions, provide input, and show support. We hope to see you there.

Past Events

Car Wash Fundraiser. We held the first (annual) car wash fundraiser this past June in the parking lot of SOAR on Milwaukee Ave. Thanks to all our volunteers and patrons, and to the SOAR team for supporting this event and set up.

Garage Sale Weekend. Many Rolling Meadows residents organize garage sales the same weekend in the middle of June, in coordination with other neighborhoods in the area. Watch for the date next year and register your sale — with location, sale items and expected hours — to be added to a map of participating neighbors.

Ice Cream Social. We have organized multiple ice cream socials at the Ace Apartments. Thanks Culver’s and Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. for providing ice cream, and to Madison Fire Station 5 for bringing their truck.

McGinnis Prairie Pickup. Neighbors met at McGinnis Park to clean up dead stalks and remove plant debris and litter from the prairie plot. Thanks to those who showed up to contribute some garden labor to keep the plot healthy, and to Streets Division staff for making an extra pickup for the considerable amount of material removed.

Cookout with Neighbors. We organized a gathering for neighbors to meet and socialize in May 2022. Many thanks to RMNA Board members Sean Lenz and Michael McKittrick for again hosted on their driveway. We had superb attendance and hope you’ll be able to join us for the next one!

Movie in the Park. The screening of Toy Story 4 in McGinnis Park was a huge success! Many thanks to Madison Parks for providing the movie on their mobile screen, RMNA President Mark Sannito for preparing food on short notice, and to everyone who promoted and attended the event. We will try to get on the Park's calendar for future movie series and will also highlight any upcoming movies happening in nearby neighborhoods.
